If at first you don't succeed etc etc is a well known adage which could well have been applied to historical attempts to arrange an event involving our Lady counterparts but despite an initial approch in 1983 and again in 1987 no progress was made so the subject went on to the back burner.
Then, in 2007, Joyce Bass, Past Lady Captain of Rhyl GC offered to donate a Trophy in memory of her late husband, Frank, who had passed away in 2002. Frank had been a very popular Captain of Rhyl GC and, in 1995, of our Association. This kind offer was taken up and the inaugural event was held at Rhyl in a Mixed Foursomes format, proved to be very popular and is now played as a Greensomes and has grown from strength to strength being played annually at the home Course of the Lady Past Captain's Captain for the year.
And so it was on Monday when 68 Competitors gathered at Holywell to contest this year's event and, in fine, warm weather some fine Golf was evident with excellent scoring and, as usual, a very cordial and friendly apres Golf atmosphere.
Later the Presentation was preceded by a warm and humourous speech by the Holywell Captain, Richie Alli followed by the handing over of the supplementary prizes by our Captain, Trevor Sharp and the Captain of the Ladies, Brenda Williams. The Frank Bass Memorial Trophy and associated replicas were then presented by the Lady who had made it all possible, Joyce Bass with everyone looking forward to next year's event hopefully to be hosted by Padeswood & Buckley GC.

Results. Holywell's Kevin Leech is the man in form recently and his partner, Jan Cain had only last Saturday won Holywell Lady Captains Day so they went into the day on the crest of a wave and carried the form on to card an excellent 44 Stableford points to take the honours. Equally creditable was the performance of the defending Champions, Brenda Williams and Flint's Terry Roberts whose 41points took Runners-up spot on a card play-off from Northop's Dorothy Jones & Steve Harris.
In 4th place Sandra Millman & Graham Newell of Prestatyn with 38 points just pipped Hawarden's Caroline & Alan Beavan on a last 6 card play-off.
Kevin is obviously enjoying his spell as Holywell's Association Delegate as, already, his first year in the post has resulted in four 'podium finishes'
